History

Bimson Haulage was established in the 1960’s as a generic strategy of the family’s building business. The company was founded in 1947 by William Bimson and he was later joined by sons, John, William Jnr and David. Together they developed the firm into one of the most reputable house builders in Cumbria.

The haulage business began with the purchase of rigid tippers to serve the firm’s building sites with aggregates and construction materials. By 1970 the firm’s vehicles were on hire to external customers more than they were used for the family’s own building activities.

Under the control of John Bimson, the haulage business quickly expanded as a separate entity and by 1976 the firm bought its first ‘artic’ with a centre mounted brick crane trailer. Working for the local brickworks the vehicles began, what in time would be the company’s core competence, delivering bricks to Scotland.

By the 1990’s the fleet had grown to 16 vehicles and 33 trailers, and with a varied customer base the business was now undertaking general haulage as well as transporting construction materials. In addition to the firms head office in Carlisle, depots were also set up in Scotland, Cheshire & Yorkshire.

In 2002 and 2005 respectively Richard and John Bimson Jnr joined the family firm bringing with them not just experience of the haulage industry but a varied knowledge of accountancy, purchasing, production management and marketing. In 2007, the business was incorporated and the last 3 years have seen turnover grow in excess of 20% per annum

Bimson Haulage now offers a full UK coverage with the same excellent service on which its reputation has been built.
